John Knasas - Saxophone & Vocals
John Knasas grew up in Houston, TX where he first started playing the saxophone at age 12. After graduating from high school, he attended Providence College where he earned his B.A. in music education. John then continued his studies at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) where he earned he master’s degree in saxophone performance in 2003.
In addition to Brass Attack, John has performed with many groups in a variety of settings around New England including the Swing Out Big Band, the Back Bay Saxophone Quartet, Nightlife Orchestra, and various pit orchestras and small ensembles. John has also performed with Wayne Newton, Kenny Garrett, Ahmad Jamal, and Kenny Wheeler.
When not performing, John serves as the Middle School Band Director at North Smithfield Middle School where he has directed the nationally recognized band program since 2003. He also is the director of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble (RIPYWE) and associate editor for the RIMER, the quarterly publication for the Rhode Island Music Educators Association.
John lives in Attleboro, MA with his wife Cathy and two sons, Jack and Joe.
