Steve ("Mr. Big") Vallante began his musical career at the age of 10. His dad taught him to play the accordion and he later studied with well-known accordionists Bob Paolo and Tulio Gasperini. In 1975, Steve toured Italy and played 14 concerts with other students. He competed in many state, regional, and U.S. championships. Having won a U.S. jazz competition, Steve was given the honor of participating in a concert given at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Steve taught privately for 6 years and conducted many bands in all levels of competition. He went on to further his studies at Rhode Island College and received a BS in Music Education in 1983. He has been employed by the Johnston School Department as an elementary general music teacher since 1985. Steve was the leader of his own general business band "Crosswinds", which he put together when he was 15 years old, and continued to play in that band for more than 20 years! Prior to playing with Brass Attack, he performed for 8 years with one of RI's local bands called "In The Groove". He has also worked as a freelance keyboardist with various musicians and bands in Rhode Island.
